If you have breast implants and want clarity about what’s happening inside the implant and around it, ultrasound can help identify common imaging signs of rupture or leak, including a collapsed/folded shell, free silicone, and other irregularities. Ultrasound offers no radiation or compression.

When to screen (FDA guidance)

For silicone gel-filled implants, the FDA recommends:

First screening 5–6 years after implant surgery
Then every 2–3 years afterward (even if you feel fine)

Studies have proven that ultrasound showed ~90.9% sensitivity and 100% specificity for silicone implant rupture detection.
