FAQ

Does HerScan accept insurance?

HerScan is a self-pay screening service and currently does not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or any third-party insurance. Most FSA and HSA cards can be accepted, as long as they have a major credit card label on it.

No referral is required for a HerScan screening appointment. However, patients are encouraged to share their results with their physician for appropriate follow-up. Many referring physicians also direct patients to HerScan as a convenient access point for supplemental screening, particularly for those with dense breasts or who are not yet eligible for mammography.

Yes. HerScan’s mobile units utilize the same high-resolution ultrasound equipment and protocols used in hospital and imaging-center settings. All exams are performed by ARDMS/ARRT-certified breast ultrasound technologists, and all studies are interpreted by ABR-certified radiologists specializing in breast imaging. Image quality, reporting standards, and data security follow the same standards as fixed-site practices.

Ultrasound is intended as a complement to, not a replacement for, mammography. It is particularly useful for women with dense breast tissue, those under 40 with symptoms, or those seeking additional screening between annual mammograms. HerScan encourages patients to maintain routine mammography and to share all imaging results with their physician for coordinated care.

No. Screening breast ultrasound is a well-established, evidence-based imaging tool used for decades as an adjunct to mammography. HerScan’s innovation lies in the delivery model — bringing this proven technology directly to communities where access is limited, increasing early detection opportunities without compromising quality or clinical standards.
